About Katherine
My journey in mental health care has been profoundly shaped by my diverse roles within the medical and academic communities at Mount Sinai Hospital. Before becoming a full-time therapist, I dedicated five years to oncology, providing counseling for patients and caregivers. This experience deepened my understanding of the emotional and psychological challenges faced by those dealing with chronic and acute illnesses. At the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, I had the privilege of facilitating various support groups tailored to the needs of medical professionals and students:
PEERS Group Facilitator: For two years, I led support groups for PhD and Master of Biomedical Science (MSBS) students, utilizing a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) model to help participants develop effective coping skills.
Wellness Advisor: I led support groups for NICU fellows and OBGYN residents, creating a safe environment for sharing emotions and stressors. I also provided critical support during adverse patient outcomes, fostering resilience and cohesion within these high-stress programs.
Circles Support Group Facilitator: Designed for third-year medical students, Circles provided a safe space for sharing thoughts and feelings during this stressful period.
Leukemia Caregivers Support Groups Facilitator: I offered emotional support and guidance to caregivers of leukemia patients, helping them manage unique challenges and promoting resilience and effective coping strategies.
Co-Facilitator for Art & Science of Medicine (ASM): Alongside a physician, I co-facilitated this required course for first-year medical students, focusing on teaching communication skills and integrating the psycho-social aspects of medicine into their learning.
These roles have equipped me with an understanding of the unique mental health challenges faced by healthcare professionals and individuals in high-stress environments. Whether you're managing a chronic condition, navigating a major life transition, or experiencing anxiety and burnout, I offer a safe, compassionate space to process your experiences and develop effective solutions.
